ECG installs 500kVA transformers to boost power supply in Adum

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has begun installing two 500kVA transformers in the Adum Central Business District (CBD) to tackle the rapid increase in electricity demand, according to a report by the Ghanaian Times. This expansion is part of a larger network upgrade across Greater Kumasi. The General Manager of ECG's Ashanti West Region, George Amoah, revealed that this project, along with previously completed upgrades at the Ridge Bulk Supply Point and ongoing improvements by GRIDCo, aims to meet the growing electricity demand spurred by multi-story construction in Adum, Ridge, Danyame, and Ahodwo.

During a visit from the Kumasi Nhyiaesohene, Nana Osei Yaw Frimpong II, Amoah highlighted that unauthorized encroachments on utility corridors by private developers were raising ECG's operational expenses, especially due to the cost of relocating infrastructure. The Nhyiaesohene acknowledged the challenge, stating that developers frequently encroach on the Nhyiaesohene's right-of-way with buildings and then request infrastructure adjustments at additional expense.

Amoah expressed gratitude for the traditional authority's involvement in addressing the issue. Nana Osei Yaw Frimpong II praised ECG's work in enhancing power reliability in several Kumasi areas and pledged to enforce strict regulations against unauthorized developments within his jurisdiction. He urged ECG to report any encroachments or unauthorized constructions within his territory and called on residents to stop illegal power connections and pay their bills on time to support ECG's ongoing projects.
