Data ministry explores AI-friendly global data standards with OECD, ADB

The Ministry of Data and Statistics in Korea is intensifying its efforts to make official statistics and public data more accessible to artificial intelligence (AI). To achieve this, the ministry has partnered with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to host a three-day workshop in Seoul. Over 80 data experts, representing statistical agencies and central banks from 25 countries, have gathered to participate in the event.

A primary focus of the workshop is the Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange (SDMx), an international standard that facilitates the exchange of statistics and related information across diverse systems. The sessions at the workshop will explore various methods to standardize and manage data for AI purposes, as well as how AI tools can enhance data quality and simplify data production and management.

Instructors for the sessions include experts in data standards and AI from major international organizations, such as the OECD and the Bank for International Settlements. On the final day of the workshop, participants will engage in the SDMx + AI Innovation Hackathon, where they will work together to develop innovative solutions leveraging SDMx and AI technologies.
