COVID-19 fumigation: Withholding or underreporting GH¢720m expenditure would be serious offence – Domelevo

Former Auditor-General Daniel Domelevo has warned that withholding or underreporting the expenditure on COVID-19 fumigation would be a serious offence. According to an investigation by journalist Manasseh Azure Awuni, the government spent at least GH¢720 million on COVID-19 fumigation, while the Auditor-General's special audit only recorded GH¢96 million.

Domelevo emphasized that institutions obliged to provide information to the Auditor-General must do so, and failure to do so would constitute a serious offence. He also noted that if the audit was not conducted properly, it would be a serious professional misconduct. The discrepancy between the audit's findings and the alleged higher expenditure has been described as "very disturbing" if the latter figure is accurate.

The former Auditor-General called for clarification on the circumstances surrounding the audit to determine if information was withheld or the expenditure was improperly reported.
