[CONFERENCE] Lawmaker, envoys call for human-centered education as AI advances

A lawmaker and foreign ambassadors kicked off The Korea Times Global Conference in Seoul on Tuesday with speeches emphasizing the significance of education and human potential in the age of artificial intelligence (AI). The conference, themed "Beyond AI: Building human-centered leadership for the next era," convened academics and industry experts at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry building to explore how universities must adapt their educational approaches and leadership paradigms as AI transforms society.

Rep. Kim Hee-jung of the People Power Party, chairperson of the National Assembly's Education Committee, underscored the conference's core themes, stating that as technology progresses, the answers increasingly hinge on human capabilities. "Education is what builds human strength," Kim asserted. She noted that while technologies once deemed impossible are now becoming a reality and advancing at an unprecedented pace, it is imperative to steer this change rather than being swept along by it. Kim pledged to pay closer attention to insights from various stakeholders in the field.
