[CONFERENCE] 'Education in AI era should focus on cultivating humanity'

Choi Jae-boong, a mechanical engineering professor at Sungkyunkwan University, argued that education in the age of artificial intelligence should prioritize human development rather than merely attempting to limit students' use of AI technology. Addressing the Korea Times Global Conference at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Seoul on Tuesday, Choi presented his ideas during the keynote speech titled "Beyond AI: Building Human-Centered Leadership for the Next Era."

He emphasized that AI innovation is an unavoidable reality, and that both leadership and education must fundamentally change to prepare for this future. Choi noted that while numerous major technology firms reduced their workforce in recent years, they actually increased their headcount as they sought more AI talent. "However, last year and this year, the focus of Korean universities was on how to prevent students from utilizing AI for their assignments," Choi stated. "Almost no one was discussing how to cultivate humanity."
