Climate x Culture Summit to spotlight role of creativity in Africa’s climate action on October 22 in Accra

The inaugural Climate x Culture Summit will convene policymakers, climate practitioners, business leaders, creatives, journalists, technologists and youth to explore the impact of culture and creativity in driving climate action across Africa. Organized by CultureJoint in collaboration with the Office of the Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, the summit will take place on October 22, 2026, at the Google AI Community Centre in Accra.

The theme, "Designing Sustainable Creative Experiences for Africa," underscores the event's focus on leveraging culture, innovation, and storytelling to foster meaningful climate action and sustainable development.

The summit aims to transcend traditional policy and environmental discussions, delving into how culture and the creative economy shape lifestyles, consumption, behavior, and public engagement. By convening stakeholders from climate, creative, business, media, and technology sectors, the summit seeks to uncover practical methods for integrating sustainability within creative production and cultural experiences.

A crucial focus will be on understanding the access to finance challenges faced by climate-conscious innovators within Africa's creative industries, as well as identifying avenues for support from climate actors, financial institutions, and development partners.

Recognizing the rapid growth of Africa's creative economy, the organizers believe this sector holds significant promise for intertwining economic activity with climate solutions. Particularly noteworthy is the influential role young people play in shaping cultural trends, consumption patterns, and digital conversations. Through multi-panel discussions, the summit will foster cross-sector dialogue on the intersections of climate change, culture, technology, finance, and creativity, while spotlighting avenues for collaboration and innovation.
