Chase Elliott Apologizes to Chase Briscoe After Gateway Disaster

Chase Elliott issued an apology to Chase Briscoe following a late-race crash at the Gateway wreck during Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at World Wide Technology Raceway. With 27 laps remaining in the Enjoy Illinois 300, Elliott's No. 9 car lost power as it entered turn 1, colliding with Briscoe's No. 19 vehicle. Both drivers were forced to retire from the race, suffering DNFs and dropping to 11th and 32nd place respectively in the championship standings.

Briscoe expressed relief that the accident was not his fault, stating, "Not your fault." Elliott clarified he had "nowhere to go" during the incident. Elliott's trouble at Gateway was not isolated, as he had also endured brake failures in previous races at the track. Both drivers acknowledged the difficult day, with Briscoe lamenting that he had "used up eight of his nine lives" in the race.

The crash marked a significant setback for both drivers, who were both Chases in the Chase for the NASCAR Cup Series. Briscoe remains just one race away from the championship lead, while Elliott trails by 93 points.
