Centre summons Air India CEO over immigration lapse

The Indian government has summoned Air India's CEO following an alleged immigration oversight involving three foreign nationals who departed the country without completing mandatory departure procedures at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) has requested an explanation from the airline, deeming the incident a significant security and immigration-related lapse.

Air India Chairman N Chandrasekaran recently reiterated the airline's commitment to safety, customer trust, operational excellence, and financial sustainability as it progresses through its transformation phase. Chandrasekaran emphasized that regaining public trust in the airline should be its primary objective, requiring top-notch processes, stringent compliance, and personal accountability throughout the organization.

During an internal meeting on September 7, Chandrasekaran stressed that the airline must be known for prioritizing safety above all else, with its safety record exceeding that of other leading airlines. Addressing employees at a town hall meeting on Monday, Chandrasekaran expressed his pride in Air India's unique position in the country and its special place in the hearts of Indians worldwide.

He highlighted the importance of Air India to a billion people, stating that it is the only business that garners fervent discussions, criticisms, and appreciation from a massive global audience.
