Cambiemos Orihuela Demands Urgent Public Opening of Rubalcava Palace

Cambiemos Orihuela has demanded the urgent opening of Rubalcava Palace, claiming it remains closed to the public a year after renovation work was completed. The political group stated that while the palace's gardens hosted two Moors and Christians events and a promotional video for a music festival, the interior has not been used.

Party spokesperson Leticia Pertegal expressed frustration over the lack of a clear explanation for the continued closure and the absence of a promised public open day. Cambiemos is also seeking information about the condition of the palace's original furniture and artworks, which have been stored at the Royal Monastery of the Visitation since 2008, at a cost of €250,000.

Pertegal questioned whether these items remain in good condition and whether the building will ever be converted into the City Museum. The party warned that Rubalcava Palace could become another long-running municipal project like Orihuela's bullring, with the palace only available to a privileged few rather than the residents who paid for its restoration.

Cambiemos criticized the selective use of municipally owned cultural sites, which are often made available to private companies and specific organizations while ordinary residents are limited to viewing them from outside. The group accused the council of failing to properly value and manage Orihuela's historic heritage.
