Cafe Mondegar, Maharashtra Biryani Center lose licences after FDA crackdown

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended licenses of six food establishments, four located in Mumbai and two in Pune, after inspections revealed food safety violations and other deficiencies. Among the suspended establishments is Café Mondegar, a renowned Colaba café established in 1932, known for its historic murals and old-world ambiance.

On September 12, an FDA inspection at Café Mondegar uncovered serious deficiencies, including inadequate hot food storage, improper cooling of cooked food, and unsanitary conditions. Other suspended licenses include those of Maharashtra Biryani Center in Kandivali East and Tribhuvan Dairy Farm in Ghatkopar West. The FDA's action is part of an ongoing food safety enforcement drive during the festive season, with FDA Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe pledging continued strict action against violators of food safety rules and those selling or storing expired or adulterated food.
