Bye-Bye, ‘Baby Shark’: Spotify Lets Parents Keep Kids’ Music From Taking Over Year-End ‘Wrapped’ Recap

Spotify has introduced a new setting that will enable parents and guardians to exclude children's music from influencing their personal taste profile in the streaming service's year-end recap, known as Spotify Wrapped. This announcement comes after users have reported that songs such as "Baby Shark" and Kidz Bop tracks have been skewing their Spotify experience.

The new feature is especially beneficial for parents who use their personal Spotify accounts to entertain the entire family, ensuring that their preferred music is not tainted by the children's songs that their kids love. Once the setting is enabled, Spotify will no longer consider music aimed at kids and families when making personalized recommendations like Discover Weekly and Daily Mix, nor will it be included in the listener's year-end Spotify Wrapped recap.

The change affects all past streams as well, so users will no longer see the influence of children's music on their top songs or artists. Parents can still enjoy children's music, but it won't impact the taste profile used for personalizing their Spotify experience. The new feature is rolling out globally on mobile for both Free and Premium users and is activated by default.

Users who want to keep children's music separate from their own listening habits will need to manually disable it in their "Settings and privacy" section. It may take up to 48 hours for the change to fully appear in personalized recommendations. This new setting is part of Spotify's ongoing efforts to provide families with more control over how they use the platform, offering tools to remove individual songs or playlists from influencing their taste profile and creating managed accounts for younger listeners.
