‘Buffy’ Reunion at Emmys: Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz Mock Canceled Reunion Series, Pay Tribute to Cast Members Who Died

At the 2026 Primetime Emmy Awards, Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz reunited to celebrate the 30th anniversary of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Boreanaz began the reunion, to which Gellar replied, "Yes. For those of you keeping track at home, I had just turned two." The duo then joked about the age gap between their characters, Angel being 241 years old while Buffy was only 18.

Boreanaz suggested they had a "May-December romance," but Gellar clarified it was more like a "May-December 1787 romance." Despite the reboot cancellation, Boreanaz stated they were "endgame," though Gellar acknowledged they would never know. The duo also honored cast members who passed away in recent years, including Michelle Trachtenberg, Nicholas Brendan, and Anthony Stewart Head.

Gellar thanked the audience for getting the joke, and both attended the Emmys to acknowledge the franchise's milestone. In the award category of Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie, Matthew Rhys won the award.
