Bihar UCC Row: JD(U) Says It Will Study Draft Before Taking Stand As BJP Backs Implementation

Patna: A day after a senior JD(U) leader made headlines by stating that Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would not be enforced in Bihar, deputy chief minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary on Tuesday tried to ease the party's stance on UCC implementation. Chaudhary said the party would thoroughly review the provisions of the proposed law and would not oppose if they are found to be acceptable.

Chaudhary clarified that the JD(U) is part of the ruling NDA in Bihar and any decision on UCC would be made after discussions with alliance partners. He added that the complete draft of the proposed law has not yet been made public, so it would not be appropriate to form an opinion hastily. If the party has any concerns, they would be brought to the attention of Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Meanwhile, deputy chief minister and senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Sinha supported UCC implementation, invoking the principle of "Ek Nishan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Vidhan" (One Flag, One Prime Minister, One Constitution). He argued that a unified law promotes the idea of "Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat" (One India, Great India).

Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, the JD(U) national spokesperson, said that the national working president Sanjay Kumar Jha would discuss the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
