ASUU-LASU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Salary, Retirement Benefits

The Lagos State University's branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-LASU) has announced an indefinite and comprehensive strike over salary concerns, retirement benefits, and the stalled implementation of the 2025 agreement between the union and the Federal Government. This decision came after the union's 14-day ultimatum to the Lagos State Government to act on the agreement expired.

In an emergency meeting on Tuesday, the union's congress decided to take this action following a review of the government's response to their demands, particularly the welfare of academic staff, including salary and retirement benefits. The union stated that despite multiple attempts to engage the government constructively, the prolonged delay and lack of concrete action have compelled them to take industrial action.

The strike will remain indefinitely until all outstanding issues, including the domestication and implementation of the 2025 ASUU/FGN agreement, are resolved. ASUU-LASU has called for continued struggle and assured victory.
