Astros’ Carlos Correa ruled out for the season after ankle inflammation flares up

Houston Astros' star player Carlos Correa will not be returning for the remainder of the 2023 season. Manager Joe Espada announced this on Tuesday, citing inflammation in Correa's left ankle as the reason. Despite Correa's efforts to make a comeback after undergoing left ankle surgery on May 11, his progress appeared to be nearing completion. However, the team decided to discontinue his return for the current season and instead focus on being prepared for spring training next year.

Espada expressed disappointment at Correa's near return and the hard work he had put into regaining his form. He also mentioned that continuing to push Correa could have resulted in further injury, making it a difficult decision. Correa, who signed with the Astros in a blockbuster trade from the Minnesota Twins last summer, had been playing third base last season, filling in at shortstop when Jeremy Peña was out with a hamstring injury. This season, Correa will earn $31.5 million, $30.5 million in 2027, and $30 million in 2028.
