Ashghal completes Package 1 of Al Asmakh development project

Doha, Qatar - President of the Public Works Authority, Ashghal, Mr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Meer, recently inspected the progress of the first package of the Al-Asmakh area development project, which focuses on preserving historical and heritage value in Central Doha. The President was briefed on the completed construction work and the upcoming delivery procedures, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the scheduled completion date while maintaining high quality and standards.

The Al-Asmakh Area Development Project, spanning 78,000 square meters, aims to strike a balance between preserving Doha's historical identity and meeting modern development requirements. The project encompasses 73 buildings and includes an integrated package of development works such as restoring and rehabilitating existing structures, reconstructing buildings while preserving their heritage character, developing service buildings, enhancing facades, and improving infrastructure and internal streets.

Eng. Khaled Al Khamis, the project manager, explained that the construction work has been finished, and the delivery procedures are currently underway. The development work involved re-construction of an integrated infrastructure, including streets, extensions, and various facilities to serve all developed and reconstructed buildings, while preserving their unique architectural elements.

Notably, the project included the redesign and conversion of part of the historic Doha Palace hotel building into an old car showroom, contributing to the repurposing and benefit of an existing structure while maintaining its architectural value. Additionally, a number of external works, such as roads, walkways, sidewalks, and signage, have been implemented to enhance the urban environment and seamlessly connect the newly developed buildings with their surroundings.
