Ashghal completes Package 1 of Al Asmakh development project

The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has finished construction on the first phase of the Al Asmakh Area Development Project in Msheireb, Qatar. This project aims to rejuvenate the historic center of Doha by harmonizing heritage conservation with contemporary infrastructure development. Engineer Mohammed bin Abdulaziz al-Meer, the authority's President, inspected the site and affirmed that Package 1 underscores Ashghal's dedication to preserving Doha's historical essence while embracing modern advancements. The project covers an area of 78,000 square meters and comprises 73 buildings.

Key aspects of the construction include restoring existing structures, rebuilding certain buildings while maintaining their historic character, upgrading service facilities and facades, and modernizing infrastructure and internal streets. Engineer Khalid al-Khamees, the project manager, confirmed that the project is now complete, with integrated utility networks, roads, and services established to accommodate all properties within the development.

Notable highlights of the project include structural reinforcement for protected landmarks and the conversion of part of the historic "Doha Palace" hotel into a vintage car museum. The external facades of the buildings were restored to their original aesthetic, while mechanical, electrical, and drainage networks were upgraded. Roads, pathways, and signage were also modernized, with special attention given to properties bordering Souq Waqif and Msheireb to ensure a cohesive visual appearance throughout the area.

Additionally, five new electrical substations were installed to enhance building safety, efficiency, and long-term sustainability.
