Africa Nations Volleyball Championship: Ghana’s Black Spikers leave for tournament in Tunisia

The Ghana men's national volleyball team, known as the Black Spikers, have embarked on their journey to Tunisia for the 2026 Africa Nations Volleyball Championship. The squad left Accra on Sunday, September 13, for a competition that also serves as a qualifying event for the 2027 FIVB Volleyball World Championship and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The stakes are high for all participating teams due to the significance of these tournaments.

The Black Spikers are placed in Group A, where they will compete against the hosts, Tunisia, and also face Kenya in their group matches. The team arrived in Tunis the day before the championship began. Ahead of Ghana's participation, team officials have expressed their confidence in the players' preparedness. Kasmil Kash Agbenyegah, the head coach of the Ghana men's volleyball team, stated that the team has been training for three months, indicating their readiness for the tournament.

Daniel Benefo, the team captain, shared the team's ambitious outlook for the competition. Benefo remarked, "The morale is very high. We are not just going to participate; we are going to fight and win the trophy." This sentiment underscores the team's determination to succeed and claim victory at the African Nations Cup. The Ghana Volleyball Association's executive board member, Mohammed Aputeog, expressed his excitement about the team's travel for the African Nations Cup, stating, "This means everything for Ghana volleyball. We have always wanted moments like this."
