Accra-Kumasi Expressway: Mahama to honour GAF engineers with Companion of the Volta

Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson announced the establishment of the Value for Money Office to scrutinize the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project. This new office, operating under the Ministry of Finance, will ensure that every cost is justified and public funds yield value. The expressway will be the first task of the office, which Dr Ato Forson praised President John Dramani Mahama for creating, stating it will bolster accountability in public funds' use.

The Finance Minister assured Ghanaians that the full funding for the expressway will be secured by December 31, 2026, and the government will not borrow a single pesewa for the project. He commended the Ghana Armed Forces for completing the clearance of the expressway’s right-of-way ahead of schedule, highlighting their ability to support national infrastructure development beyond their primary security role.

The cleared corridor now allows for the construction of the 198.7-kilometre Accra-Kumasi Expressway, which is projected to reduce travel time and transport costs, enhance road safety, and facilitate the movement of people and goods across Ghana.

Dr Ato Forson emphasized that this project is a testament to the government's commitment to building infrastructure that generates jobs, boosts economic activity, and expands national wealth. He added that the expressway will set a new benchmark for infrastructure delivery and benefit future generations.
