The Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) in Kumasi has urged businesses in the Ashanti Region to ensure their products meet necessary standards and certifications ahead of the holiday season. In a recent statement, the GSA highlighted its intention to ramp up monitoring and enforcement during the festive period to safeguard consumers and uphold product quality.

The Authority expressed appreciation for companies that have already successfully completed the Product Certification Process, securing the requisite certifications for their goods. These businesses showcased a dedication to quality, consumer welfare, and adherence to Ghana's regulatory standards.

However, the GSA also issued a reminder to businesses recently notified of penalties for non-compliance. It urged these companies to promptly contact the Kumasi Office before the deadlines outlined in their respective notifications. The Authority had previously chosen not to disclose the names of affected businesses, aiming to foster a positive business environment and assist companies in rectifying their compliance issues through proper certification and standardization processes.

The GSA emphasized that businesses failing to respond within the prescribed timeframes might face additional regulatory measures, which could include public naming. It particularly encouraged food and non-food sector enterprises yet to regularize their certification status to seek guidance and support from the GSA Kumasi Office.

The Authority advised businesses to initiate the certification process promptly rather than waiting for enforcement actions to begin. Product certification, according to the GSA, serves as a third-party verification that a product complies with essential safety and quality requirements.

The GSA Kumasi Office also appealed to consumers to favor certified products and assured the public that the office would soon share lists of certified products and companies via its social media channels. Subsequent press releases would similarly highlight these certified entities.

The GSA reaffirmed its dedication to collaborating with industry stakeholders, promoting quality, fostering fair trade, protecting consumers, and establishing a supportive business environment conducive to growth.
