A reality check awaits for the Raiders as a tough 6-game stretch begins at the Chargers

(AP) - The Las Vegas Raiders face a tough six-game stretch as they prepare to take on some of the NFL's top opponents, including the Los Angeles Chargers, New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, New England Patriots, Buffalo Bills, and the Los Angeles Rams. Raiders coach Klint Kubiak acknowledged the challenge, stating, "You learn about everybody in this pressure cooker that we work in, and that's what makes the NFL so fun."

The Raiders will begin their challenging schedule on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, followed by road games against the Saints, Chiefs, Patriots, Bills, and Rams. While some of the upcoming opponents lost their opening games, others have strong track records, such as the Chargers, Saints, and Patriots. The Raiders, who went 3-14 last season, have reason to hope, with sportsbooks giving them a consensus 6.5-win total.

Kubiak highlighted the Raiders' improved offensive line, which should be stronger due to the addition of Pro Bowl center Tyler Linderbaum and left guard Spencer Burford. Additionally, Kolton Miller returned to the lineup after recovering from an ankle injury. Quarterback Kirk Cousins showed improvement against the Miami Dolphins, throwing three touchdown passes and Ashton Jeanty contributed significantly with 147 rushing and receiving yards.

However, the Raiders must address concerns such as Cousins' deep throws and the team's lack of offensive steam in the fourth quarter. The team has shown the ability to overcome challenges, with previous wins against New England, Baltimore, and Kansas City. The Raiders' special teams unit showed promise last season, and Kubiak expressed optimism about the team's potential in the upcoming season.

Injuries to TE Brock Bowers and CB Darien Porter require close monitoring. The Raiders' red-zone touchdown rate is a key factor, as they improved from 50% last season to 75% this year. As the Raiders prepare to face their AFC West rival on Sunday, they have key targets to address, such as improving their red-zone efficiency and ensuring a strong performance in each quarter.
