President Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine suggested on Monday that his nation would cease its attacks on Russian territory if Moscow guarantees it will refrain from targeting Ukraine's vital infrastructure. This statement followed remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump on social media, claiming Russia and Ukraine had reached an accord not to harm each other's energy infrastructure.

However, Trump did not provide additional details on the alleged arrangement. Russia has not yet responded to Trump's claim. Past attempts to establish any form of truce have always collapsed within hours, with both parties blaming each other for breaches. The U.S. president had previously urged Zelenskyy to stop striking Russian oil refineries and other crucial infrastructure, which he argued were contributing to a global diesel fuel shortage.

Diesel prices have been on the rise in the United States, and the high fuel costs resulting from the Iran conflict have become a significant issue for Trump's party as they prepare for upcoming congressional elections. Ukraine is still waiting for an official ceasefire plan from its allies. Zelenskyy proposed that the partners assist in reaching an agreement with Russia for a ceasefire.

He emphasized that numerous Ukrainian energy facilities, ports, logistics networks, and even food and pharmaceutical warehouses have become targets in the ongoing conflict. Zelenskyy expressed the hope that the war could be brought to an end, and a de-escalation measure concerning critical infrastructure could mark the beginning of a peaceful resolution.

Zelenskyy stated he anticipates concrete proposals from his partners. On Sunday, Trump called upon Zelenskyy to halt the strikes. Following this, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on Trump's suggestion, stating that any call on Kyiv to cease strikes on civilian economic infrastructure can only be applauded. NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte affirmed on Monday that Russian drone strikes near the Ukraine-Poland border, one of which struck a train shortly after senior officials had passed through the same station, would compel the alliance to bolster its support for Kyiv.

Rutte referred to Putin's actions as a sign of Moscow's growing desperation and a desire to instill fear and terror. He pledged to escalate support for Ukraine and fortify NATO's defenses along its extensive eastern border with Russia. Rutte stressed that Putin is mistaken in believing he can halt or undermine NATO's unity. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Sunday that Poland would enhance security measures along its border with Ukraine following a series of Russian drone strikes near the frontier, some of which landed within a kilometer of Polish territory.

Tusk warned that Moscow might intensify its assault on Ukraine's borders with European nations. Ukraine faces mounting pressure from Russia's escalating air campaign, utilizing ballistic missiles and jet-powered drones to breach defenses. Officials express concern that the coming weeks and months will witness intensified actions on the Russian side, and they caution that such escalation could potentially impact Polish territory as well.
