20 Mature Trees Allegedly Poisoned In CBD Belapur, Activists Seek NMMC Probe Into Suspected Chemical Injection

At least 20 mature trees in CBD Belapur have been allegedly poisoned by drilling holes into their trunks and injecting a suspected chemical substance, environmental activists claim. Activists Paramdeep Grewal and Vishnu Joshi of Parsik Greens found holes, damaged bark and chemical traces at the sites. Grewal and Joshi suspect deliberate damage to the trunks for injection.

Activists NatConnect Foundation director B N Kumar and BJP corporator Netra Shirke have called for an immediate NMMC inquiry. The trees, located near the NRI Coastal Police Station and NMMC headquarters, have survey numbers marked by the civic body. Activists urge civic officials to take action and protect the trees, citing Navi Mumbai's rapid urbanization as a reason to prioritize tree protection amidst the city's green cover concerns.
