Workers must complement AI skills with professional expertise to remain relevant – ALX Enterprise

In a rapidly changing job market, employees must continuously develop their skills to complement artificial intelligence (AI) with their professional expertise, according to ALX Enterprise Partnership Manager Edward Akani. Speaking on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, Mr Akani emphasized that AI would not replace humans but would significantly alter how jobs are performed, making adaptability and continuous learning crucial.

Mr Akani argued that workers who combine their existing professional skills with AI tools would be better equipped to navigate the evolving job landscape. He stressed that humans possess insights and skills that technology cannot replicate, and workers need more than a basic understanding of AI. Instead, they must develop the ability to merge technical skills, professional expertise, and creativity.

Comparing the current changes to the introduction of automated teller machines (ATMs), Mr Akani noted that while ATMs reduced some of the traditional functions performed by bank tellers, they also created the need for workers to acquire new skills. He warned that employees confined to a single role without adapting would become more vulnerable as sectors like banking transform due to AI adoption.

Mr Akani highlighted that a similar transformation could occur across various industries as businesses increasingly integrate AI-powered tools and systems. He concluded by stating that the world of work in the realm of technology and AI will look drastically different, emphasizing the importance of adaptability and continuous learning for all employees.
