Wisco's Gigi Chasco wins Journal Sentinel athlete of the week poll

Gigi Chasco, a player from Wisconsin Lutheran girls volleyball, emerged victorious in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel high school athlete of the week poll for the week of August 31 to September 5. Head coach Megan Mache hailed Chasco as the "glue" that held her team together during a grueling five-set match against New Berlin West on September 3.

Chasco contributed significantly to her team's win, recording 26 assists, 14 digs, 12 kills, four blocks, and two aces. She received an impressive 11,462 votes out of the total 21,352 cast in the poll.

The runner-up in this week's poll was Claire Baldwin from Sussex Hamilton girls volleyball. Her Chargers team rebounded strongly during the previous week, securing a perfect 6-0 record, including a tournament victory at the Summers End event in Winnetka, Illinois. During this period, Baldwin demonstrated her all-around prowess with a remarkable 54 digs and 52 kills, showcasing her versatility. She also led her team to a 3-0 sweep against Greater Metro Conference rival Wauwatosa West.

Other nominees in this week's poll included Ethan Potthast from Brookfield Academy football, Bear Bonk from Marquette football, and Noah Gailey from Hartford boys cross-country.
