Wahl: Mitte-Links-Opposition steuert auf knappen Wahlsieg in Schweden zu

In Sweden, the parliamentary election has set the stage for a potential government change. According to preliminary results released on Monday, the center-left opposition is narrowly ahead of the right-leaning governing coalition, as reported by the election authority. A victory for the opposition in Sunday's vote would halt the rightward shift in Sweden's immigration policy over the past four years.

The center-left coalition, led by Social Democrat party chair Magdalena Andersson, has secured 176 of the 349 parliamentary seats. Meanwhile, the incumbent right-wing coalition headed by Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has obtained 173 mandates. Andersson announced on Sunday evening, "If this outcome is confirmed, Sweden will have a new government."

The far-right Swedish Democrats, who had hoped for a seat in government, lost approximately eleven seats. However, the parties are cautious as 353 districts and foreign votes still need to be counted. An official result is expected on Wednesday, with the current gap between the two blocs being a mere 0.45 percent. Kristersson initially did not acknowledge a defeat.
