Volkswagen is set to expand its Tiguan and Tayron models with a more powerful 2.0 TSI engine by the end of the year, according to a recent announcement. The new 195kW/400Nm petrol will become the flagship engine for the Volkswagen group. The 195kW unit will only be marketed in the R-Line trim, complete with 4Motion all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG. The current 140kW TSI gets the Tiguan from 0-100 km/h in 6.5 seconds and has a top speed of 225 km/h. The 195kW TSI is expected to be priced around R900,000, possibly making it a preview of the upcoming Tiguan R, which is currently undergoing testing.
The Tayron will also benefit from the engine's approval, adding a second option to its three-model range, which currently uses the 110kW/250Nm 1.4 TSI unit. The introduction of the 195kW TSI will provide a power boost to the Tayron, which currently ranges from R811,800 to R899,900. Details about the engine's introduction date are yet to be revealed.
