Vivo’s iQOO 16 to Feature World’s First 2K 165Hz Smartphone Display

Vivo's sub-brand iQOO has unveiled the specifications of the forthcoming iQOO 16, asserting it will be the world's inaugural smartphone with a 2K resolution and 165Hz refresh rate. This revelation transpired during a joint Samsung Display and iQOO screen technology demonstration. The device will utilize Samsung's newly created 2K LEAD 2.0 OLED panel, jointly developed by the two corporations.

The iQOO 16 will also be the initial Android handset to employ Samsung's most recent M16 luminescent material. The agreement encompasses a tailor-made high-refresh-rate display IC and a dedicated production line for iQOO flagship phones. The panel boasts a maximum manual peak brightness of 1,100 nits, global peak brightness of 2,800 nits, and local peak brightness up to 10,000 nits. iQOO claims the display covers 1.24 times the P3 color gamut and undergoes individual calibration before distribution, resulting in a 39.6% improvement in color uniformity and a 22.3% enhancement in brightness uniformity compared to the previous model.

The company also employs its own color and brightness compensation system to calibrate the display at the sub-pixel level, with a color accuracy of ±0.001. The handset features a new touch chip designed for gaming, capable of up to 5000Hz instantaneous touch sampling and 500Hz multi-finger touch sampling. It also incorporates iQOO's Q-flex control technology, aimed at minimizing the delay between a touch input and the corresponding action on the screen.

The iQOO 16 is anticipated to emphasize its display as a primary selling point, particularly for mobile gaming, due to its 2K resolution, 165Hz refresh rate, high touch responsiveness, and Samsung's latest OLED materials.
