Vadodara ransom trap: How Rs 10 lakh hawala drop in Delhi led cops to Rs 4 crore heroin stash

In a case that started in Vadodara and ended in Delhi, a hawala money transfer linked to a ransom demand in the city led to the arrest of a key suspect in a heroin trafficking operation. Police in Vadodara received a death threat against a businessman and demanded a ransom of Rs 10 crore to ensure his safety. The Vadodara Detection of Crime Branch (DCB) formed a team to trace those involved, working with the Delhi Police Special Cell through technical surveillance and human intelligence.

The operation culminated in Delhi, where an associate of the Rohit Godara gang was apprehended while attempting to collect a portion of the ransom. The suspect, Kuldeep Ganeshdas Swami, was found in possession of heroin worth Rs 4 crore when his car was searched, and the vehicle was subsequently seized for further investigation.

The case has also led to a separate investigation under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The Vadodara Crime Branch is now seeking remand for Swami as investigators continue to unravel the network behind the extortion and drug trafficking activities.
