US judge blocks Trump's move to limit duration of stay for foreign students, journalists: report

In a significant legal setback for the Trump administration, a U.S. federal judge in Boston has blocked the enforcement of a new rule aimed at limiting the duration of stay for foreign students, journalists, and other nonimmigrants in the United States. According to a Reuters report, U.S. District Judge F. Dennis Saylor issued the ruling on Monday, just a day before the administration was scheduled to implement the regulation.

The Department of Homeland Security had introduced the rule in July, claiming it was necessary to curb what they termed as "visa abuse" by foreign nationals. The administration had planned to cap the stay of nonimmigrant students on F visas and exchange visitors on J visas at four years, while also restricting the initial stay period for most foreign journalists to 240 days.

The judge's decision prevents the rule from taking effect, affecting over 13,000 Koreans who were currently in the U.S. under visa programs subject to this restriction.
