[UPDATED] Jamil Khir charged with causing TH to dispose of RM860.3mil assets

Former Prime Minister's Department minister Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom was charged in Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court with three counts of causing the Hajj Endowment Fund (TH) to dispose of over RM860.3 million in assets between 2015 and 2017. The 65-year-old, who was responsible for religious affairs at the time, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

According to prosecutors, Jamil Khir allegedly caused TH to dispose of RM860,308,770.51 (SAR766,062,237) to Al-Rawda Real Estate Development And Projects Management Co Ltd. This includes RM42,942,074 (SAR44.17 million), RM288,172,134.64 (SAR250,041,622), and RM529,194,561.87 (SAR471,848,615) for specific charges. All three counts were alleged to have taken place at Jamil Khir's office at the Prime Minister's Department religious affairs division in Federal Government Administrative Centre and Putrajaya Islamic Complex on April 3, 2015, December 14, 2016, and August 17, 2017.

Jamil Khir was represented by Datuk Hisyam Teh Poh Teik and proposed bail of RM300,000 for all three charges, with a condition requiring him to surrender his passport. His defense argued that he had no other source of income apart from his ministerial pension and that the bail was to ensure his court attendance. The court fixed bail at RM300,000 with one surety and ordered Jamil Khir to surrender his passport pending the case's disposal. The next mention was set for November 5.
