Ulster Unionists select candidate for Doug Beattie's seat

The Ulster Unionist Party has chosen Kyle Savage to represent the seat formerly held by party leader Doug Beattie in the upcoming Assembly elections. Beattie resigned from the party in May, citing a toxic atmosphere under the current leadership and now serves as an independent unionist. Party leader Jon Burrows stated that Savage will have the full support of the party during his campaign.

Savage, a twice deputy lord mayor of Armagh City, Banbridge, and Craigavon, was selected by the Upper Bann members due to their trust in him. Burrows emphasized that Upper Bann punches above its weight and requires a representative committed to making Northern Ireland stronger and more successful. Savage expressed his vision for Upper Bann, stating that the area needs common sense, not more slogans, and called for someone honest about the failures and determined to win the seat for the people.
