U.S. ambassador, Seoul's vice FM discuss implementation of summit agreements

SEOUL, September 14 - U.S. Ambassador to South Korea Michelle Steel met with Second Vice Foreign Minister Kim Jina on Monday to discuss the implementation of trade and security agreements agreed upon by the two nations' presidents last year, according to a post on X. Steel expressed satisfaction with the meeting, stating that she had the pleasure of meeting Kim for the first time.

The joint fact sheet, which was adopted following the summit between President Lee Jae Myung of South Korea and U.S. President Donald Trump, outlines various bilateral commitments on trade, investment, and security. These include South Korea's pledge of $350 billion in investments in the United States. The two countries are currently discussing revisions to the Korea-U.S. nuclear energy agreement, or the 123 Agreement, to enable South Korea to enrich uranium and reprocess spent fuel. Additionally, South Korea aims to develop nuclear-powered submarines as part of the agreement.

Steel, who began her official duties in August, has been engaging in multiple discussions with senior officials in South Korea regarding security, trade, and other bilateral alliance matters.
