Trump dismisses new AI guardrails, says there is a 'SICK conspiracy' against AI and data centers

President Donald Trump dismissed calls for increased government oversight of artificial intelligence, dismissing the efforts as part of a "SICK conspiracy". Trump pushed back against tech leaders like Anthropic's Dario Amodei, OpenAI's Sam Altman, and Elon Musk, who advocated for greater regulation of AI. Their aim was to ensure the technology was developed with safety, legal liability, economic growth, scientific advancement, and national security in mind.

Trump claimed his presence in the Oval Office would dispel any fears about AI, stating that a strong and intelligent president, like himself, was sufficient guardrail against rogue AI. He posted on social media that the U.S. already had the necessary control with its administration. Trump also asserted that the administration had already stopped Anthropic, an AI company, from engaging in bad or potentially bad actions.

Anthropic had faced scrutiny from the Trump administration, including a potential security risk label from the Pentagon and a temporary ban on one of its advanced models. Dario Amodei published an 3,800-word essay calling for a slower AI development pace. In response, Microsoft published its own code of conduct to maintain human control over AI.

However, Trump opposed such efforts, claiming they could cause China to overtake America in AI development. Trump insisted that there was a "SICK conspiracy" against AI and data centers, with China being the only one happy about it.
