Trump blasts ‘sick conspiracy’ against AI as warnings mount

President Donald Trump dismissed concerns about the potential dangers of artificial intelligence (AI) on Monday, stating that the U.S. already possesses sufficient safeguards to regulate and prosecute AI companies. This comes after growing public alarm and a recent resignation from an Anthropic researcher who resigned, partly due to fears that AI could pose an existential threat to humanity by the end of the decade.

The AI industry experienced a downturn as stocks related to AI-related companies fell globally on Monday. Leaders of some of the largest companies in the sector called for a slowdown in the development of the technology. Trump, in a message on his social media platform Truth Social, claimed that the U.S. had the necessary "strong and smart" (high IQ) leadership to oversee AI development.

Trump further suggested that China could benefit from the skepticism surrounding AI development. He is set to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping next week in Washington.
