Transport minister: Private vehicle ownership transfer inspection fees will remain standardised, no price competition

On September 14, Transport Minister Anthony Loke announced that the fees for private vehicle ownership transfer inspections (M.V.15) will remain standardized and regulated by the government, prohibiting competition based on price. Loke emphasized that the focus should be on service quality, convenience, and faster service delivery, rather than lower prices that could compromise the industry's sustainability.

At a press conference to launch the M.V.15 Inspection Centre at CARSOME Academy, the minister highlighted that operational efficiency is a priority, with licensed private centers completing the inspection process in under 20 minutes and transmitting the results directly to the JPJ system. This move to open the market for motor vehicle inspection services, following the expiration of a single concession, is expected to provide consumers with a broader range of services.

The inauguration of the first licensed M.V.15 center operated by an automotive Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution, run by CARSOME Academy, marks a significant milestone. This center integrates inspection services with technical training, employing examiners certified at Level 3 in Malaysian Skills Certificate (SKM) in Motor Vehicle Inspection.

This initiative aligns with the MADANI Government's objective to enhance TVET as a viable career path while offering students practical exposure. Loke also cautioned private operators about the significant responsibility accompanying their licenses to uphold legitimate inspection processes and roadworthy vehicles, noting that the Transport Ministry and JPJ will conduct surprise audits and regular monitoring to ensure service integrity and standards.
