Tinubu directs timely release of N1.3 trillion Regional Commissions’ funds, warns against corruption

President Bola Tinubu has directed the prompt release of N1.3 trillion in funds allocated to the Regional Development Commissions, stating that these transfers are mandated by the 2026 Appropriation Act, according to the 2026 Appropriation Act. The President cautioned the commissions' boards and management against corruption, waste, and undertaking projects that do not directly benefit the populace.

During the opening session of the North Central Stakeholders Development Summit, held in Abuja, Tinubu affirmed that the Federal Government would sustain both political and financial support for the commissions to effectively execute projects. He emphasized the government's intentions to unlock Nigeria's economic and industrial potential.

However, Tinubu cautioned the commissions to consider alternative financing methods such as public-private partnerships, donor funding, and development financing. The Federal Ministry of Regional Development, he directed, should ensure that the commissions adhere to the Regional Development Policy Document, while warning against corruption, marginalization, politicization, and ethnicization within government operations.

He urged the North Central Development Commission to transform the summit's 20-year vision into tangible results by fostering safer communities, thriving farms, improved infrastructure, burgeoning industries, increased employment opportunities, and enhanced household prosperity.
