The writer, who is an avid tubeless user, knew that TPU inner tubes had numerous advantages, but in this specific instance, the plastic construction of the TPU inner tube proved to be particularly beneficial.

The TPU inner tube's shape retention capabilities were crucial, as a butyl tube would have bulged out of the large slit in the tyre, and a tubeless repair kit would not have been effective. Despite the extensive sealant present, the writer managed to ride the remaining 15km home on their own power, all thanks to the reliability of their TPU inner tube.

The writer's experience highlights the importance of carrying TPU inner tubes as an emergency backup, even for avid tubeless users. TPU inner tubes offer more than just a lightweight alternative; they provide better puncture resistance, reduce rolling resistance, and enable mess-free tyre changes and repairs.
