Tesla Finally Revealing Second-Gen Roadster After Nine Years

After nearly nine years of delays, Tesla is preparing to unveil its second-generation Roadster electric sports car. Tesla's official X account announced "Go for launch" alongside a date stamp reading 10.01, hinting at an October 1 reveal date. The teaser graphic also appears to mention the optional thrusters Tesla has previously discussed for the Roadster, developed in collaboration with SpaceX. CEO Elon Musk has repeatedly claimed the next Roadster would exceed the capabilities of a typical sports car.

Originally announced in November 2017, the second-generation Roadster has undergone multiple delays. Some customers who made large reservations, like OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, have faced lengthy waits and eventually received refunds. Recent reports suggest Tesla may have abandoned the original 2017 design entirely, preparing a completely different vehicle. This means the Roadster revealed on October 1 could look vastly different from the red prototype shown nearly nine years prior.

Despite the October reveal, buyers should not anticipate immediate deliveries. CEO Elon Musk previously suggested production could commence 12 to 18 months after the final unveiling, potentially leading to production well into 2027 or 2028 if the timeline holds true.
