Sri Petaling box scare turns out to be Lego-like blocks

KUALA LUMPUR, September 14 — A suspicious plastic box discovered unattended in front of a shop lot in Bandar Baru Sri Petaling earlier today turned out to contain toy building blocks after police bomb disposal personnel were called to the scene. The Kuala Lumpur police chief, Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus, reported that authorities were alerted about the box at around 12:57 PM following a report by a 33-year-old woman.

"Initial checks revealed the object exhibited a high radiation level, prompting the deployment of a Bomb Disposal Unit, alongside the Bukit Aman Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosive (CBRNE) Unit, to the scene for additional inspections and evaluations," he stated. Authorities from the Malaysian Nuclear Agency were also present at the scene.

The Bomb Disposal Unit subsequently utilized a Recoilless Disruptor 5.0, an explosive ordnance disposal device, to neutralize the suspicious object before uncovering several boxes presumed to contain vibrant building blocks inside the plastic box, according to a statement released by Fadil. Subsequent checks conducted by the Malaysian Nuclear Agency confirmed the absence of radioactivity in the surrounding area.

Fadil mentioned that the incident is under investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code for criminal intimidation. The public was advised against disseminating false information that could lead to public unrest, Fadil emphasized.
