SNAPSHOT | Loke calls for emergency Harapan meeting after Zahid's dare; FGV appoints audit firm for probe

DAP Deputy Chairman Loke Siew Fook urged Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to convene a Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council meeting in response to concerns about political stability following recent remarks by Umno President Zahid Hamidi. The Transport Minister stated that such a meeting is necessary to address worries about the political landscape as component parties within the unity government appear to be diverging in their intentions.

Recent statements from various parties within the coalition seem to indicate a lack of unity. This situation is not likely to inspire confidence in investors or the general public, Loke said during a press conference in Sungai Buloh today. Before this, Zahid had insultingly hinted at Anwar during the Umno General Assembly meeting last week, including claiming that Umno could govern the country better than the Prime Minister.

The Barisan Nasional (BN) chief also challenged the unity government to remove Umno and BN from power and proposed a vote of no confidence against Anwar in the House of Representatives. According to Zahid, while Umno and BN agreed to form a unity government with PH at the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong after the 2022 General Election, their cooperation does not mean they are abandoning their future political directions.

He also emphasized that Umno and BN remain free to shape their own political agendas, including for the upcoming General Election and the upcoming Melaka state election. However, he reiterated Umno's commitment to continue working with the existing administration until the end of its term.
