Should Erling Haaland's goal for City against Man United have been ruled out?

The Premier League's refereeing body has admitted that an error was made in awarding Erling Haaland's winning goal in Sunday's Manchester derby. Manchester City defeated Manchester United 1-0 at Old Trafford, with Haaland scoring in the 60th minute. The goal was initially ruled out for offside but was later overturned by VAR. United was furious that the goal stood, arguing that Enzo Fernandez, a City player, was interfering with play before Haaland scored.

Fernandez was in an offside position and appeared to be offside when attempting to score. United defender Lisandro Martinez said the goal was an "injustice." Pro Ref, the VAR provider, acknowledged the error, stating that Fernandez did not play the ball and therefore any offside offence was subjective. However, they argue that the VAR should have recommended an on-field review, as Fernandez was clearly attempting to play the ball.

City may argue that Foden's earlier red card was harsh, but it is harder to argue that United does not have a case for Haaland's goal being disallowed.
