Indonesian search and rescue (SAR) operations to find eight people, including five journalists, who went missing during a visit to the Anak Krakatau volcano in the Sunda Strait, have continued for three days after a week-long search yielded no results.

Al Amrad, the head of Banten SAR Office, explained that the decision to extend the operation was made after evaluating the new assessment of the search area and movement data as well as sea conditions. In a statement today, he said the request for extension was also due to dialogue and discussions with the families involved.

The five journalists are Muhammad Bagus Khoirunnas from national news agency Indonesia Antara, Arie Basuki from Merdeka.com, Yudistiro Pranoto from iNews, Firdaus Wajidi from Anadolu Agency, and independent journalist Donal Husni, along with the ship's captain Warta, the second officer Surakman, and the tour guide Heriyanto. They went missing on Monday during the visit to the volcanic island near Sebesi Island in Lampung between Java and Sumatra in the Sunda Strait.

Amrad stated that the search operation would continue using both ships and helicopters, but it is contingent on weather conditions and visibility range. So far, the SAR team has been unable to determine the exact location of the fast boat believed to have carried the victims.
