Sanusi questions Umno’s sincerity after call for T’ganu polls

PAS election director Sanusi Nor has questioned the sincerity of Umno's call for a snap election in Terengganu. Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan had suggested the snap poll to demonstrate PAS's commitment to Malay unity. Sanusi argued that PAS's sincerity in this matter didn't need to be tested, unlike Umno which he noted had not relinquished any seats to PAS in the recent state elections.

Sanusi questioned the legitimacy of Umno's intent behind the snap election call, stating that their sincerity so far had been focused on facilitating a transfer of votes and retaining their current seats. He posed the question of which Umno seats were given to PAS in the recent polls in Johor and Negeri Sembilan or which Umno seats they planned to give to PAS in Melaka.

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) election director further accused Umno of defending their current positions and vying for seats they had not won yet, such as those held by Pakatan Harapan. Sanusi's comments came after Mohamad, also known as Tok Mat, had proposed the snap election in Terengganu to test PAS's sincerity about Malay unity.

If Umno and PAS could agree on a seat allocation formula in Terengganu, Mohamad suggested a similar approach could be applied to future general elections. However, Umno suffered a significant defeat in the 2023 Terengganu state election, winning none of the 27 contested seats. The National Justice Party (PN), on the other hand, won all 32 seats in Terengganu, with PAS securing 27 and Bersatu gaining five. This left Terengganu without an opposition for the first time.
