Reform's Tice hits out at Labour 'hypocrisy' over £72m donations row

Reform UK's deputy leader Richard Tice has criticized Labour's stance on a recent controversy involving £72 million in donations received by the Labour Party from two crypto-billionaires. Tice accused Labour of "hyperventilating hypocrisy" over the donations, which he claims are in line with both current rules and proposed legislation aimed at restricting donations from overseas sources.

The twin £36 million gifts from Ben Delo and Christopher Harborne have sparked calls for a blanket cap on donations to political parties. Both Delo and Harborne have since stated they will return to the UK to avoid restrictions on overseas donations. Tice argued that the donations did not influence Reform UK's policy platform and would not have any impact on their campaign.

The proposals for a donation cap are expected to be a key topic in the House of Lords, where the Government's Representation of the People Bill will be debated on Monday.
