Rayo cleared to return to Vallecas after urgent safety repairs

Madrid's regional government has given the green light for Rayo Vallecano to resume playing at their home stadium in Vallecas, following urgent safety repairs. The decision comes after an audit conducted last July revealed significant safety deficiencies at the Vallecas stadium, leading to suspensions of Rayo's lease. These deficiencies included poor hygiene, health, sanitation conditions, and other safety concerns.

Despite these issues, Rayo has managed to play two league matches this season at Leganes' Butarque stadium. The club is also scheduled to play Espanyol at Butarque on Tuesday. However, Rayo is anticipated to return to the Vallecas stadium on October 10 for their fixture against Athletic Bilbao. Meanwhile, Madrid's regional government is pursuing a plan to end Rayo's usage of the Vallecas stadium due to alleged serious breaches of its obligations, even though the suspension that barred the club from playing there has been lifted.
