Qatar turns summer tourism into opportunity to boost domestic activity

Doha, Qatar is utilizing its varied tourism and entertainment attractions to maintain visitor numbers during the summer months. Tourism Minister Ayman Al Qadwa told Qatar TV that tourism has become a vital part of the national economy, contributing around QR55 billion to GDP in 2024, about 8% of the country's total economic output. He said summer initiatives are supported by a growing calendar of events and promotional programs designed to encourage people to explore destinations within Qatar.

The strategy aims to appeal to families, residents and international visitors, enriching the domestic tourism experience while attracting more people during a traditionally slower season. Hotels are also playing a role with seasonal packages and entertainment experiences to encourage longer stays and exploration of local services and attractions.

Experts say these offers help stimulate tourism by drawing families and visitors from inside and outside Qatar, supporting demand for hotel rooms, restaurants and entertainment. This approach reflects Qatar's efforts to strengthen domestic tourism and ensure continued visitor engagement and commercial activity throughout the year.

Qatar welcomed nearly five million international visitors in 2024, with a large portion coming from neighboring Gulf countries. The focus is on diversifying the country's tourism offerings and creating experiences that appeal to both domestic and regional audiences, providing additional reasons for visitors to explore Qatar even during the summer.
