PSNI looking for murderer who escaped from day release

Northern Ireland's police are urgently seeking information to locate a convicted murderer who has absconded from day release. Gary Anderson, now 29, was sentenced to 15 years for the murder of Karol Kelly in 2023. Mr. Kelly, a father of five, died in Derry's Grafton Street after an altercation in the early hours of March 4, 2018, during which he was stabbed multiple times. Both Gary Anderson and his brother, Sean Anderson, were convicted of the killing.

Anderson is currently serving his sentence at HMP Maghaberry in County Antrim. As of now, he has not returned to prison or been apprehended. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has described Anderson as approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, of slim build, with brown hair. They emphasize that he has a scar on his right hand and a tattoo of a smiley face on his left ankle.

The PSNI has made a direct appeal to Anderson to surrender. They also urge anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the police on 101, quoting reference 555 of 14/09/26. Alternatively, anonymous information can be provided to Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.
