Prime Video just got a 14% Rotten Tomatoes disaster trashed by critics. Now, it's a 2000s classic

Prime Video has added the 2003 film "Uptown Girls" to its library, a movie that critics panned when it first hit theaters. The Boaz Yakin-directed dramedy has since been revisited with more favorable eyes, especially after Brittany Murphy's tragic passing in 2009. Murphy stars as Molly Gunn, a naïve socialite daughter of a famous rock star who finds herself homeless after her family accountant embezzles her inheritance.

She takes on the job of a nanny for Lorraine Ray Schleine (Dakota Fanning), an eight-year-old precocious and hypochondriacal girl living in Manhattan with an absent mother and a comatose father. Despite their contrasting personalities, Molly and Ray form an unlikely bond, with Molly helping Ray open up and Ray teaching Molly about life.

The film's emotional chemistry and comedic banter between the two leads, as well as its tender treatment of the characters' respective plights, make it a comfort-watch classic all these years later.
