On March 25th, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly took a historic vote, declaring the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Africans and racialized chattel enslavement the gravest crime against humanity in recorded history. This monumental decision was spearheaded by the Republic of Ghana, bolstered by the powerful testimony of President John Dramani Mahama and Foreign Minister Hon.

This monumental step was the catalyst behind Latif Abubakar's most ambitious project to date: THE DARKEST CHAPTER, a theatrical experience blending musical elements and dance.

The Witness, the immortal narrator of The Darkest Chapter, recalls a thousand lives throughout four centuries - from a child of the Gold Coast, to a prisoner on the Middle Passage, a field hand in the Caribbean, a marcher beside freedom fighters, and finally as a spirit moving unseen through the halls of the United Nations. Under the production's three-dimensional setting, the stage becomes Cape Coast, Elmina, the UN General Assembly, and a timeless spirit realm.

The fusion of West African, contemporary, and Caribbean dance traditions with live percussion, orchestral strings, and full choir creates a sensory masterpiece.

Creator Latif Abubakar emphasizes, "This is not a re-enactment. It is an inheritance. We are not asking audiences to relive four hundred years of pain, but to walk through it, so that when the resolution is spoken aloud, it doesn’t land as a headline — it lands as an answered prayer."
