Police expand Long Lellang helicopter crash investigation to refuelling site, flight chronology

KUCHING, Sept 14 — Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Mohamad Zainal Abdullah has announced that the investigation into the Long Lellang helicopter crash will now include the refuelling site and other locations the aircraft passed through before the incident. The investigation aims to determine if there were any unusual occurrences.

Police Commissioner stated that there are no indications that the incident was caused by factors other than an accident, but all possibilities are being examined comprehensively. So far, 19 witness statements have been recorded, and more will be gathered if necessary. The investigation also covers the entire flight chronology, from the aircraft's take-off in Miri to its final destination, including flight records and any emergency calls.

The technical investigation has been handed over to the Air Accident Investigation Bureau, while the Royal Malaysia Police will continue to assist if needed. The timeframe for completing the investigation depends on the number of additional statements and locations to be re-examined, but police aim to complete it as soon as possible.
